Correlations and selection of parents to technological traits of upland cotton Ciência Rural
Carvalho,Luiz Paulo de; Farias,Francisco José Correia; Rodrigues,Josiane Isabela Silva; Castro,Katiane Secco; Zuffo,Alan Mario; Teodoro,Paulo Eduardo.
ABSTRACT: Technological traits improvement of cotton fiber is a constant demand by textile industry. This research aimed to identify the potential of improved materials with high lint percentage to contribute with alleles that increase the lint percentage in Extra long staple fiber (ELS) upland cotton. Two contrasting materials for lint percentage (LP) and fiber length (FL) were used, one with long fiber and a low lint percentage (parent A) and another with high lint percentage and medium length (parent B). The following variables were evaluated: lint percentage (LP), upper half mean length (UHML), fiber uniformity (FU), fiber strength (FS), and elongation (EL). Diallel analysis was performed using the Griffing’s Method 4 adapted to partial diallel....

Abstract Foliar molybdenum (Mo) application may enhance the nitrogen (N) acquisition by the plants and increase the yield and quality of vegetables. A study was conducted to investigate the effect of foliar Mo spray on N nutrition and yield of crispleaf lettuce (Lactuca sativa L., cv. Grand Rapids) grown in the spring-summer period. The experiment was carried out at Ourinhos, São Paulo State, Brazil, from October 2013 to January 2014. Treatments consisted of five Mo rates [0 (control), 25, 50, 75, and 100 g ha-1 of Mo] divided into two foliar sprays, at 14 and 21 days after planting. Foliar application of Mo rates reduced the nitrate (NO3 -) concentration, and increased the concentrations of ammonium (NH4+), total N and Mo in the lettuce leaves. These data...

Productive performance of soybean cultivars grown in different plant densities Ciência Rural
Ribeiro,Augusto Belchior Marchetti; Bruzi,Adriano Teodoro; Zuffo,Alan Mario; Zambiazzi,Everton Vinicius; Soares,Igor Oliveri; Vilela,Nelson Júnior Dias; Pereira,José Luiz de Andrade Rezende; Moreira,Silvino Guimarães.
ABSTRACT: Plants density in soybean cultivation is an important management practice to achieve high grain yield. In this way, the objective was to evaluate the agronomic traits and grain yield in soybean in different plant densities, in two locations in the south of Minas Gerais. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, arranged in a split plot design, with three replications. Plots were composed of four population densities (300, 400, 500 and 600 thousand plants per hectare) and the subplots were composed of six cultivars (‘BMX Força RR’, ‘CD 250 RR’, ‘FMT 08 - 60.346/1’, ‘NA 5909 RR’, ‘TMG 7161 RR’ and ‘V - TOP RR’) grown in Lavras and Inconfidentes, both in Minas Gerais. At the time of harvest was determined the plant height, lodging, insertion...

Seed priming improves the germination and growth rate of melon seedlings under saline stress Ciência Rural
Oliveira,Carlos Eduardo da Silva; Steiner,Fábio; Zuffo,Alan Mario; Zoz,Tiago; Alves,Charline Zaratin; Aguiar,Viviane Cabrera Baptista de.
ABSTRACT: The germination and growth of melon (Cucumis melo L.) plants can be severely affected by excess salts in the soil or irrigation water; however, negative effects of salt stress can be attenuated using appropriate methods of seed priming. Thus, effects of osmopriming as inducer of salt stress tolerance in melon seeds exposed to salinity levels were investigated in this study. Seeds were soaked for 22 h at 25 °C in the dark in distilled water (hydropriming) or 0.5% KNO3 solution (osmopriming), and after drying, were distributed in plastic boxes with blotter paper containing different NaCl solutions prepared with osmotic pressure of 0.0 MPa (control), -0.3 MPa (mild stress), and -0.6 MPa (severe stress). Unprimed dry seeds were taken as control. The...
